Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga’s 132-run partnership for Sri Lanka against Australia in Melbourne in 2010 is the highest 9th wicket partnership in ODI.
Normally, the ninth wicket partnership involves bowlers and lower-order batsmen who aren’t known for their batting skills.
However, there have been numerous instances, where the ninth wicket surprises everyone by creating partnerships that go beyond expectations and change the course of the game.

10. Yusuf Pathan and Zaheer Khan (India) – 100 Partnership
Yusuf Pathan and Zaheer Khan’s 100-run partnership for India against South Africa in Centurion in 2011 is the tenth-highest ninth-wicket partnership in ODI history.
The pair came together, India were 134-8, but they put on a late fight to help their team reach a total of 234.
Pathan scored 106 runs off 70 balls, while Khan contributed 24 runs off 58 balls. Despite their remarkable partnership, they could not win the match for their team as South Africa went on to win the match by 33 runs (D/L method).
9. Liam Plunkett and Vikram Solanki (England) – 100 Runs Partnership
Liam Plunkett and Vikram Solanki scored 100 runs together for England against Pakistan in Lahore in 2005.Â
They came together with England struggling at 130-8, but they put on a valuable partnership to help their team reach a total of 230. Plunkett scored 56 runs off 80 balls, while Solanki contributed 39 runs off 48 balls.Â
English bowlers were unable to defend that target and Pakistan won the match by 7 wickets with 36 balls remaining.
8. Dasun Shanaka and Kasun Rajitha (Sri Lanka) – 100* Runs Partnership
Dasun Shanaka and Kasun Rajitha’s 100-run partnership for Sri Lanka against India in Guwahati in 2023 is the eighth-highest ninth-wicket partnership in ODI history.
At one stage, Sri Lanka were 206-8, but they made a remarkable partnership to help their team reach a total of 306.
Shanaka scored 108 runs off 88 balls, while Rajitha contributed 9 runs off 21 balls. Despite their match winning effort, India went on to win the match by 67 runs.
7. MS Dhoni and RP Singh (India) – 101 Runs Partnership
MS Dhoni and RP Singh made 101 runs partnership for India against West Indies in Kingston in 2009.
The pair came together with India struggling at 67-8, but they put on a rescue act to help their team reach a total of 168.
Dhoni scored 95 runs off 130 balls, while Singh contributed 23 runs off 75 balls. Despite their outstanding partnership, West Indies went on to win the match by 8 wickets with 95 balls remaining.
6. Shaun Pollock and Thomas Odoyo (Africa XI) – 103 Runs Partnership
Shaun Pollock and Thomas Odoyo’s 103-run partnership for Africa XI against Asia XI in Bengaluru in 2007 is the sixth-highest ninth-wicket partnership in ODI history.
Africa XI were struggling at 145-8, but they put on a valuable partnership to help their team reach a total of 283.
Pollock scored 130 runs off 110 balls, while Odoyo contributed 39 runs off 35 balls but they could win the match for their team as the Asia XI won the match by 34 runs.
5. James Faulkner and Clint McKay (Australia) – 115 Runs Partnership
James Faulkner and Clint McKay made a 115-run partnership for Australia against India at Bengaluru in 2013.
The pair came together with Australia struggling at 222-8, but they put on a late flourish to help their team reach a total of 326.
Faulkner scored 116 runs off 73 balls, while McKay contributed 18 runs off 37 balls. Despite their remarkable partnership, India went on to win the match by 57 runs.
4. Jai Prakash Yadav and Irfan Pathan (India) – 118 Runs Partnership
